The United States has abandoned its long-standing position on Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. It now says civilian construction is no longer illegal under international law. Israel’s prime minister says the move rights an historic wrong. Palestinian politicians are not just angry, they are demanding a call to action.
The European Union and other countries say the settlements violate United Nations Security Council resolutions and undermine the chances of a two-state solution.
