Twelve infants died on October 1, 2023, at the Shankarrao Chavan Government Hospital in India’s western state of Maharashtra. They were among at least 24 deaths of children and adults recorded on the same day at the hospital in Nanded district. Relatives of the deceased have accused the hospital authorities of negligence. The regional government said it had launched an inquiry into the deaths.
