US president Donald Trump landed in Tokyo on October 27, 2025 for meetings with Japanese emperor Naruhito and prime minister Sanae Takaichi. Trump, a long-time ally of former prime minister Shinzo Abe, welcomed the meeting with Takaichi, remarking “I hear phenomenal things, she was a great ally and friend of Shinzo Abe, who was my friend.” The US president also met with Japanese emperor Naruhito shortly after arriving in Tokyo.
