Deadly Cyclone Mocha made landfall in the Bay of Bengal between Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh and Myanmar’s Sittwe on May 14, 2023. The storm packed winds of up to 210km/h (130mph) and is the biggest to hit the area in more than a decade. At least three people have been killed and hundreds were left injured. The storm flooded the port city of Myanmar’s Sittwe and damaged buildings in Bangladesh, displacing an estimated 1.2 million people. Mocha weakened into a tropical depression by May 15.
