One of the largest employers in the US is raising pay for its workers domestically and in the UK.
Online retail giant Amazon will pay staff at least $15 an hour starting next month.
In the past, the company has been criticised for its labour practices, including underpaying workers while owner Jeff Bezos is generally considered to be the richest man in the world.
Although even critics have praised the move, it remains to be seen if the pay rise will have a long-term effect on the growing economic divide in the United States.

Al Jazeera’s Patty Culhane reports from Washington, DC.
