Parliament has passed a no-confidence motion on the president’s pick for prime minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was appointed by President Sirisena after he sacked Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court blocked attempts to dissolve parliament and call snap elections next year.
