A 22-year-old man in Indian-administered Kashmir has built a medical ventilator using salvaged soap boxes, as well as spare parts from other machines including a CD drive and an old printer. Waseem Ahmad Nadaf says his invention is only a prototype, but he hopes it will offer some ideas for medical workers in remote areas who often struggle to access commercial equipment needed to help seriously ill patients fighting Covid-19.
